of the late George J. Sligh, Jr., who for many years served as the clubs
president. Sligh, who died at age 58 at his home

sportsman and conservationist, and because of his special
interest in muzzleloading shooting, the Newberry Pistol Club will
inaugurate The George Sligh Memorial event as
part of the Kings Mountain State Park MuzzleLoaders
Conclave. The conclave will be held in conjunction with
the two-day Pioneer Days program at Kings Mountain State Park
September 25-26.

was judged to be one of the best blackpowder shooters in the
Southeast. The names of the winners of The
George Sligh Memorial will be engraved on the perpetual
trophy, which will be on display at the Newberry Pistol
